About the Department

Profile:

         Department of Information Technology of Noorul Islam College of Arts and Science was established in the academic year 2001-2002. Information Technology is a field of knowledge which is experiencing exponential growth in today’s world. The emergence of Internet brought revolution in the field of computing and information processing which was the next major revolution the world witnessed after industrial revolution. In fact the field of Information Technology not only involves the use of computers for calculation purposes but also it touches every sphere of the modern Human life. Aim of introducing this course in our college is to equip the youth with the know how and expertise to handle the technological aspects of information management. Since Information technology is inseparable in all spheres of the current world, this course has the potential of providing employment opportunities. Association of Information Technology, InfoIdols was instigated in the year 2006. This association conducts various activities like symposiums, seminars, workshops and competitions for the students so that they can get firsthand experience with the emerging technologies and practices. So far this department has the credit of producing 66 University ranks, among these 5 are gold medals. Our alumni were placed in prestigious multinational companies like Wipro, HCL, TCS, CTS, ILM, Global Sutherland, etc.

Outcomes of the Programme:

On completion of the course, the student will be able to

ü  Manage the hardware and software components in a computer system independently and bloom as a programmer in software industries.

ü  Have sound skills in designing databases and managing them.

ü  Have sound skills in designing web based applications.

ü  Have a good command of the English language for professional communication

ü  Have a variety of soft skills like technical documentation, presentation, quality awareness, team work, global outlook etc.

ü  Be aware of professional, ethical and social issues in the IT field.

ü  Have experience in successful completion of a medium-sized real-life project in a team environment, in a time bound manner.

Programme Specific Outcomes:

On completion of the B.Sc.(Information Technology) Degree the graduates will be able to

ü  Analyse and recommend the appropriate IT infrastructure required for the implementation of a project

ü  Design, develop and test software systems for world-wide network of computers to provide solutions to real world problems. 

ü  Handle the emerging IT scenarios by engaging in independent and life-long learning hence contributing to their professional development.


Other Activities

  • 1.  Students of Department of IT under the Association of Information Technology (InfoIdols) organized a two days workshop on “Web Design and MS Office” for students of non-computer departments on 7/8/2019 and 8/8/2019.

    2.  IT Department organized a one day workshop on “Internet of Things” on 26/09/2019 for students of IT Department and PG Department of Computer Science, Resource Persons are from Network Systems, Nagercoil.

    3.  Department of IT celebrated “Science Day 2020” on 28/02/2020 by organizing an Exhibition with exhibits showing the influence of Information Technology in lives of common man.

    4.  Students of IT participated in Onam, Pongal, Food Festival and Women’s Day Celebrations.
